Map shows trail from Ft. Picolatta (now Palatka) across from St. Augustine passing through Alachua and the mission St. Francisco then continuing west to Pensacola. Evidence of the mission San Francisco de Potano was found in 2007 at the south edge of present San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park which is a few miles from where I currently (2025) live and I often go hiking. The trail crosses the Santa Fe River at the natural land-bridge where the river goes underground for three miles at the now O’Leno State Park.
An Indian trail is also shown going from Ft. Picolatta northward to Georgia. This later becomes the King’s Road under British Rule.
