On April 12th the first manned shuttle launch of the spaceship Columbia
lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center. Our friend Alan invited Julie,
Anne, and me to join him and Susan on his sailboat to sail up the Indian
River to Port Canaveral to watch the launch. We had a great time, the
weather was perfect, bright and sunny, we arrived and anchored in the
river and watched the Columbia lift off and disappear into the sky
starting a new era of space exploration. It brought back memories of
when I went to see the Apollo 15 moon launch back in 1971. The sun
was setting as we returned back to Melbourne.
