We got up early as we wanted to be at the dock by 9:30 to catch a boat to Wien (Vienna). We took Kristopher with us. We left at 10:00 am and arrived in Wien at 7:45 pm. A long ride! It was cool and windy part of the day. We had lunch of soup of the day, don’t know what it was, but it was very good, sliced roast beef in a gravy, noodles and chocolate cake. We go Kristopher frankfurthers and semmel. We had a nice waiter who spoke some English, so that help our ordering.    

We met an elderly man traveling alone (75 years old but didn’t look or act that old!) from Houston, Texas who pulled up his deck chair right by ours and we talked most of the day.  (his name was Mr. Young who used to be a schoolteacher.)  He really liked Kristopher and got along very well with him. Our tour bus of elderly (mostly women) got on for a 4 hour trip. We made quite a few stops and buses joined us and left us. Some for 1 hr – 2hr – 3hr or 4 hour trips.  We ate candy, toured the ship, drank drinks and went to the bathroom every hour all afternoon. Kristopher got restless and wouldn’t sit still for too long at a time!     

At 6:15 we decided to go eat supper (even though I wasn’t hungry). We had breaded pork chop, potatoes and a salad, and of course our drink straight from a bottle, no ice and a 5 oz glass at that!  The canned drinks I got in the afternoon were slightly cold though.    

After supper we met a woman about my age and her daughter (about 20) from Canada and talked to them.

Tom and Sandy Honeycut met us at the pier (they were 10 minutes late and we were getting worried!) Tom drove the car to Wien as he had a meeting with the accreditors (from the Foreign Mission Board) and with someone else. Brenda stayed home with Jeremy and Andrew. Kristopher did not like going through the locks (4 of them). We saw a lot of old castles on the mountains, but mostly it wasn’t all that exciting of a trip.     T

om and Sandy took us though a riding tour of downtown Wein. What a city! Very, very old buildings and new modern ones.

We got to their really nice house high up on a hill overlooking the city where Sandy served us fresh cherry cobbler, freshly baked, banana bread and ice cream and coffee. They had a nice big back yard with a big cherry tree, apple tree and two kinds of plum trees and grapes and lots of pretty flowers – the roses were just beginning to bloom.  From one tree Sandy said she froze cherries, canned cherries and gave cherries away and still had cherries.    

They had a nice house (rented) living room, dining room, kitchen, bath and guest bedroom upstairs, downstairs (split level) 2 bedrooms, Tom’s office, laundry room, bath, and a hall big enough for 2 schrunks (wardrobes) as there are no built in closets in any of the houses here and for the children to play. They have the 2 boys, Miles age 11 and Stephen age 18 months old.  Morris and I had the guest bedroom and Tom and Kristopher slept on the couch that opened up into a double bed.    

We got the children to bed at 10 pm and Sandy wanted us to teach her Uno. (Tom H. learned to play at Bad Ischl) We each played for ourselves at 11:15 it was over. I went to bed and the other four played partners until 1 am! Billy, you would love Tom H he has the biggest laugh and gets so excited over each play!
