I had been writing my Deeply Rooted story for
several years before when I decided to write The Old Country. The Deeply
Rooted story is mainly about my family and ancestors but there are a few
stories about subjects relating to family such as the stories about the
Flemington Church and the Atomic Spaceship. Over the years of
collecting family stories, I realized that there was more to be told
then just my family, stories about the land and the people on the land,
the land being what my Dad called “The Old Country”. The Old
Country and Deeply Rooted stories are related and, as such, you will
find links between the stories highlighted.
The Old Country is a developing and evolving story, with chapters and
sections posted as I write them. Previous sections also may be modified
and new sections inserted. The Contents page will reflect additions and
changes.
The story opens with me taking my Dad on a car trip through the Old
Country. Dad and I never made all the stops described in the story on
one trip, but rather it is an amalgamation of many such trips we had
taken over the years as a family growing up. The trip roughly defines
the area of the Old Country story and introduces some of the people of
the land.
